Risk for Christ

Sunday we talked about a very interesting subject in Sunday School. Risk, no not the board game. Risk in life. As we talked about risk it occured to me that we are often willing to risk so much for personal gain. Yet so little for Christ’s gain.

It’s easy to sit in church and say you want to glorify Christ with your life, but its much harder to actually glorify Him. I have become convinced that we can never really glorify Him until we are risking something. Even something small is always at risk when we put Christ first. Even this morning as I study His Word I’m risking my time, my energy. When I praise Him publically I am risking humiliation and being labeled as “religous”. Sometimes its tough to risk self for Christ, but isn’t that what we say we believe. That is suppossed to be about Christ and not us, that we are dying to ourselves, that He is first in our life. Its easy to say, but now its time we back it up.

Risk Self to Glorify Him

The Importance of Church

“Church?  I mean yeh I believe in God and all that, but go to church?” - This would be the typical response from the average teenager today. Yes almost all of us believe in God but why should we go to church? Is it really that important?

First off many young people today envision church as someplace boring, where you sleep through long boring lectures. They have no intrest in going to church. Many young people today have seemingly separated faith from a structured church. They believe in God and may even feel they are worshipping God without the help of the church. But there is a problem with that philosphy. You see God is a real person, to truly know Him you must study Him. Through His Word and the teaching of His Word. Which a good church teaches every time they meet. You see it sounds good to say you can sleep in your bed every sunday morning and know everything about God but how did you gain this knowledge of God. Through your own opionions of who God is? Were talking about the Omnisciencent Creator of the Universe here, you really think you can figure Him out on your own?

So why is church important?

  1. First off because we are commanded to go. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. - Hebrews 10:25  God makes it clear in His Word that He wants us to be a part of a church.
  2. A good church is a place where you can learn the bible and learn about who God is. You can either go through life believing in God and hoping what you think about God is right or you can learn about exactly who God is and how to have a perfect relationship with him.
  3. At church you get encouragment from other believers. Need someone to pray with, someone to talk to when going through a struggle or someone to help you understand a challenging passage, probably not going to find that person if your sleeping in on sunday mornings.
  4. Opportunity to serve. You know the Christian life isn’t just all about us. It’s about others and serving them. You won’t find a better place to serve others than at Walnut Creek.

Hope to see you sunday!
